The first people will probably stand on Mars surface not earlier than in 2030. With Unreal Engine, supervised by NASA and thanks to virtual reality goggles everyone willing will be able to explore the red planet much earlier.

NASA joined forces with Fusion Media, MIT Laboratory Space and Irrational Games (series “BioShock”) to present landscapes of the Red Planet beased on footages teken from NASA rovers in virtual reality. Mars 2030 Experience will be able for consumer VR headsets like Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard and HTC Vive . The app will enable users to interact with the Red Planet and complete mini-missions that will take place both in the Nasa habitat that Mars astronauts will live in, as well as on the planet’s surface – most interestingly part of the project is taht everything will coincides with the real landscapes and the conditions prevailing on planet.
Applications is built on Unreal Engine 4 which is a next-generation game engine that can turn 2D visuals into three-dimensional 360-degree content.
communications manager at NASA Erin Mahoney says that for the moment
„Our Mars astronauts are likely in kindergarten through ninth grade right now, so the ability to share with that generation the work that we are doing now to send them to Mars is a tremendous opportunity,” Mahoney said. “We hope they will learn and be inspired by all VR experiences that allow them to be immersed in space missions”
The game developers say that the app should be ready in 2016.
